2017 Season
Soap Creek Outfitters has always practiced quality deer management. Taking a lot of hunters will not make the hunting better. We strive to keep the quality up and hunter numbers low. As you can tell by the photos this year we have the quality. We have been taking an average of eight to ten hunters per year. Some hunters had chances at 160 to 180 class bucks in the first two days while others tagged out in four to six days. Late season showed us some 160 class bucks that were busted up from fighting so we gave them a pass until next year. Worst case scenario is a 75% success rate on 140 class bucks on up. I preach to the hunters not to take the 140" bucks which is the minimum. The bucks may have the frame but age will give them the mass to make them a trophy in 2018 and 2019. Congratulations to our hunters for waiting and for taking quality bucks this year. For availability for 2018 and 2019 Contact Brian 641-895-3224
2015 Season:
2015 turned into a great year for Iowa deer hunting and Soap Creek Outfitters. The deer we have seen while hunting as well as on the cameras will set up 2016 as a banner year. We are fortunate in the fact that we have been doing this so long that we don't have to take many hunters. We still believe that a lot of hunters and quality deer do not mix. We only took eight hunters in 2015 which was due to the draw in Iowa. In the past few years we have taken 15 to 17 hunters each year. If hunting Iowa from another state remember Iowa is different. If you want to improve your chances of killing a quality buck you must do three things, get out of the lodge, stay in your stand and listen to the outfitter. Sounds simple but most guys will not do it.
2014 Season Wrap Up
2014 wrap up for Soap Creek Outfitters. After the EHD went through the Midwest states in 2013 as well as our area I hesitated to bring in too many hunters for 2014. After having eight cameras going and capturing several great bucks I was wishing I had encouraged the bow hunters more to hunt this year. The deer have really rebounded with the perfect spring and summer we had. With all the great bucks on the cameras I feel like 2015 and 2016 will be back to what we had in the past. The deer numbers are still down due to the EHD but that is the way Mother Nature is. We had a great growing season in 2014 and the deer are healthy. I have seen a couple of 180 class bucks taken in the area for 2014. Right now most dates are open and I suggest you get on board because the bucks have come back.

Largest buck taken with us for 2012.
The photos tell the story about Dave and the largest buck taken with us for 2012.
We had a good season in 2012 as far as the hunters seeing what they wanted to take home. Like many years we didn't get enough good deer on the ground.
We are taking only 15 to 17 hunters each year. It is still taking 3 to 4 years to draw a bow tag thanks to the Iowa politicians. Many gun hunters
will draw a tag the first year they apply.
News on our Season
I checked the cameras again:) One new Tasco isn't working but the Wildgame camera is thank goodness.
This buck has been seen a few times but he keeps coming out right at dark. I think Gary from MI saw him a few times:)
Jerry from Iowa is coming in on Sunday for the muzzleloader season. I am betting this buck goes home with him if he is hungry.
